We have all seen the “Age Issue” in our favourite fashion magazine, in fact most magazines these days also have these pages in every months publication. What women’s fashion should look like in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. And of course there was that dreaded scene in the first Sex and the City movie where Carrie first laid eyes on the Vogue “Great Style at Every Age” issue after her fate filled non-wedding to Mr. Big. These things have left me wondering…
Am I too old to do this? Am I too old to wear this or that? So to get a bit of a better idea I asked a few friends of differing ages a hypothetical question. If I gave them $100 what style of dress would they buy with it? They must have thought I was crazy, but I wanted to see the comparisons. What would they spend their cold hard cash on, and how would they compare to what I would buy? So here is what they chose.
The first stylish lady is a 20 something young lady who resides back in Australia. She chose the cutest black playsuit with tassels around the shoulder line from MinkPink on The Iconic website . It is super cute and I also loved it. Would it be something that would wear, most certainly.
The second 20 something sent me through the next outfit. Was it also something I would wear, most certainly yes. I especially love the long split on either side of The Deepest U Dress by Stillwater. This dress is available on Revolve for $83USD. Plus, this dress looks so very comfortable, something that would be easy to throw on. Easily dressed up or worn as is for that casual vibe.
My 30 something friends chose very similar outfits and of course all were items I would wear, which continued my thinking. What exactly does dress your age really mean, is this a saying that our parents used to say that has now become defunct? SO below are the outfits that they chose with details in the links.
Now for me, my choices are not far from all of these. But my question still remains, what does it mean to dress your age. I recently came across the blogger “The Accidental Icon” Lyn Shaw and she is amazing. In a recent post by Full of Taste they speak about Lyn’s rationale behind starting her blog site. She is edgy, stylish and above all else, herself and happy. Fashion has long moved past age appropriate dress and what we should wear and at what age. If it makes you happy, you should go for it!
LOVE WHAT YOU DO. DO WHAT YOU LOVE

So I have decided not to allow my age define who I am or how I see myself or my wardrobe. I am after all a woman of substance and style. And as such, there is a style for every story…
